Reviving Oklahoma's Rose Rock Heritage

My name is Amber Lacy, and for years I've dedicated my work to documenting, educating people about, and advocating for Oklahoma's barite roses—better known as Rose Rocks. They are one of our state's most remarkable natural treasures, yet many of the places where they have been collected for generations are disappearing as land changes hands and development continues.

Over time, I've realized that education alone isn't enough. If we want future generations to discover, study, and appreciate Oklahoma's Rose Rocks, we have to protect the places where that can still happen.

My goal is to preserve a significant Rose Rock property that can become a permanent resource for responsible collecting, scientific research, education, and, one day, a dedicated Rose Rock museum. Since the historic Timberlake Rose Rock Museum closed, Oklahoma has been without a place devoted to celebrating the mineral that earned us the title Rose Rock Capital of the World. That piece of our heritage deserves to exist again.

Right now, the most important step is securing the land before the opportunity is lost. Financial contributions toward the down payment will help make that possible, but support comes in many forms. If you know someone who values Oklahoma's history, geology, education, conservation, or philanthropy, an introduction could be just as meaningful. Advice, partnerships, and shared connections are every bit as valuable as donations.
