Welcome!

The Oklahoma Rose Rock Gallery was built to be an educational resource for anyone wanting to learn about Oklahoma's unique baryte rose minerals.

Whether you're a teacher or student, professional or hobbyist, or just a fan of the beauty of nature, there's lots to discover about Oklahoma's iconic "Rose Rocks"!

NOTE: Throughout the website you'll notice that there are two spellings for baryte/barite. Historically, "baryte" was the more common spelling, particularly in British English. However, "barite" is the preferred spelling in American English.
The International Mineralogical Association (IMA) initially favored "barite" but later switched to "baryte," leading to some confusion and debate among mineralogists and geologists.
But no matter which way you spell it, it's still pronounced the same: BAY-rite.
